Il gatto miagola – The cat meows.

I miei vicini hanno un gatto nero – My neighbours have a black cat.

La mia gatta ha fatto i gattini – My cat had kittens.

I gatti cacciano i topi – Cats hunt mice.

Come cane e gatto – Like dog and cat.

Il gatto è un felino – The cat is a feline.

Il mio gatto dorme tutto il giorno – My cat sleeps all day.

Sei allergico ai gatti? – Are you allergic to cats? (you – singular pronoun)

Siete allergici ai gatti? – Are you allergic to cats? (you – plural noun)

C’erano quattro gatti – There were four cats (figurative – There weren’t many people).

Quando il gatto non c’è i topi ballano – When the cat isn’t here the mice dance (figurative – When the cat’s away the mice will play).
